Ils se rencontrent lors de leurs études au Conservatoire de Paris (CNSMDP) , où ils forment le trio standardmodell avec le percussioniste canadien Noam Bierstone. Très à l’aise avec la musique contemporaine et le travail de création, ils ont été invités à jouer à la Philharmonie de Paris, le Chateau de Fontainebleau, le Darmstadter Ferienkurse (Allemagne)... pour interpréter la musique de nos jours, et la création de jeunes compositeurs. En 2021 ces deux musiciens font un retour aux sources, vers la musique classique. Ils répètent et enregistrent des pièces du répertoire, et commencent à arranger et retravailler de nouvelles oeuvres pour le duo saxophone et piano. Ces programmes sont le fruit de ce travail, les plus belles musiques écrites pour le saxophone, la Légende Opus 66 de Florent Schmitt, la Sonate en Ut# de Fernande Decruck, à côté d’arrangements nouveaux et moins communs comme la Sonate pour flûte de Francis Poulenc jouée au saxophone soprano, et une pièce originalement pour violon et piano, Fratres de Arvo Pärt. Le travail de création n’a pas été délaissé depuis toutes ces années, en revanche, c’est maintenant l’interprète qui décrypte ses propres écrits. La création d’une nouvelle pièce pour saxophone soprano et piano de Joshua Hyde, qui a profité des confinements pour terminer son doctorat en composition à l’Université de Sydney (Australie). Il forme aussi un duo avec la violoniste Valéria Ivanova. Recherché dans le domaine de l’accompagnement vocal, il partage des récitals en duo avec la mezzo-soprano Eléonore Pancrazi (Victoires de la musique 2019) et le ténor Jean-François Marras (Opéra de Paris). Ses activités de pianiste lui ont permis de se produire en soliste ou avec ensemble dans le cadre du Festival de Lucerne, du festival Présences de Radio-France, à la Biennale de Venise, au festival It’s all about piano à Londres, à la Juilliard School de New-York, au conservatoire Guiseppe Verdi de Milan, à l’institut Tempo Reale de Florence, au Palais de Tokyo à Paris, à la Collection Pinault à Paris, au Théâtre du Châtelet à Paris. Son parcours musical l’a également mené à travailler en étroite collaboration avec de nombreux compositeurs contemporains parmi lesquels Heinz Holliger, Tristan Murail, Philippe Manoury et à assurer la création de nouvelles oeuvres pour piano ou ensemble de Félix Ibarrondo, Frédéric Pattar, Mikel Urquiza, Daniel Apokada. Antoine Alerini a été l’élève en piano de Brigitte Engerer au Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris (CNSMDP) ainsi que de Claire Désert pour la musique de chambre. Il a perfectionné sa formation à la Hochschule Hanns Eisler de Berlin auprès de Galina Ivansova et a également été l’élève de Dominique Merlet à l’Académie du Mozarteum de Salzbourg. Reconnu à l’international comme interprète de musique contemporaine, il est saxophoniste de l’ensemble de musique parisien soundinitiative et une moitié du duo scapegoat avec le percussionniste canadien Noam Bierstone. Membre du premier ensemble Australien de musique contemporaine Elision, il est également invité à jouer avec les plus grands ensembles en Europe tels que Klangforum Wien, Musikfabrik, Ensemble Nadar et l’Ensemble Intercontemporain. Joshua a enregistré chez Kairos, Integrated Records, NMC, HCR, Wergo et Torpor Vigil. Ses collaborations avec des compositeurs du monde entier ont généré une longue liste de créations. Aussi à l’aise dans le monde de l’improvisation, ses derniers disques chez Integrated Records, ‘Sol’ et ‘How far do you have’ sont des séries de réflexions improvisées. Particulièrement intéressé par la création de contextes de performance immersifs, ses compositions incorporent souvent ses propres vidéos et arts visuels. En 2018 le New Thread Quartet a créé Bring mir einen Engel zuück au DiMenna Center à New York City, et en 2017 une partie de la série Vertical Horizons a été créée par l’ensemble Son d’Arte à la Casa da Musica à Porto. Son Installation sonore ‘Distant Air’ a été présenté au Centre des Arts à Enghien les Bains et au Festival Borealis en Norvège. En 2011 il a remporté le Premier prix et le Prix du Public au 3e Concours International de Saxophone Jean-Marie Londeix, et en 2014 il a été lauréat du Kranischteiner Musik Preis au Darmstädter Ferienkurse. Creating, reviving, and promoting Australian music both at home and abroad, the musical palette of the group ranges from classical music through to new and experimental music. The group aims to engage artists and musicians from a multicultural Australian community through innovative musical and cultural partnerships. Each of the musicians has created a career in Australia & abroad, with members graduates of the Paris Conservatoire, Conservatorium van Amsterdam, Versailles Conservatoire, the Strasbourg Conservatoire, & the University of Iowa. The first rehearsals as a quartet with Joseph, Joshua & Yo-yo took place in 2006 during their time at the University of Melbourne & the VCA. In 2022 after a (very) long hiatus, the Australian Saxophone Quartet reassembled, welcoming Mary Osborn to the group. In 2023 they will present their first season/project Echo Chamber, presenting a series of contemporary works by renowned Australian composers Liza Lim, Mary Finsterer, Samantha Wolf and Cat Hope.
